Founded in 1992, Wessebago's advice is rendered in straight-forward English based on a combined fifty years consulting with, working in, and running the development offices of colleges and universities, independent schools, health care and social service organizations, and the visual and performing arts. We provide the full spectrum of development services. We are committed to serving non-profits across the spectrum—from successful national organizations to struggling local charities—hence bill our hours on a Sliding Scale based on Your operating revenues. We need to make a living, but, of equal importance, we want to be of service—to assist you in fulfilling your mandate to make the world a better place.

“There is no one in the fundraising profession who is better than Doug Gortner at getting your volunteers to feel comfortable with asking for money. The way he talks about fundraising is so simple, down-to-earth, and accessible that anyone can learn and apply his wisdom.”

Testimonials
"Early in Doug's Planned Giving career, he came to Deerfield to design our first comprehensive program. We found that he was a creative marketer and able to reduce complicated legal/financial concepts to compelling vernacular. Doug also started several meaningful relationships and we continue to benefit from his earlier work. He understands the essence of relationship-building fundraising!"

“I have known Doug Gortner for some years and, working at a neighboring institution, I marveled at how he transformed The Putney School’s Annual Fund and Endowment!  I have often sought his advice in the area of Planned Giving and found him to be original and knowledgeable in his approach. He is a good guy who really cares about his clients!”
